We’re excited to announce that Spotify is now live on Magic Leap World. Harnessing the power of spatial computing, this is the first app of its kind to bring your favorite bands and artists to life in the world around you, in ways never before possible.
If you live for music, now you can live with music
Through this app, Spotify Premium users can seamlessly access and control their favorite music, while using Spotify on your mobile, desktop, or tablet to control the audio on your Magic Leap One Creator Edition.
The app is spatially aware, so you can pin recently played artists, albums or tracks to specific locations in your home. And because content builds over time, you can collect and curate the perfect playlists or soundscape for each room in your space. Share your sofa with up-and-coming bands, meet your idols in your kitchen, explore new albums in your garage.
Let the music play on
Spotify is the first experience in Magic Leap World to work with our Background Music Service (BMS), which means you can continue listening to a song or album on Spotify even when you move in and out of other apps on your Magic Leap One. And because you can control your music using Spotify on your phone, desktop, tablet or the Spotify immersive app on your Magic Leap One device, there’s no need to take off your headset.
New tools for developers
Our integration with Spotify brings a major streaming music platform to Magic Leap One for the first time. If you’re a developer, you can use our BMS to build applications that play audio in the background, even when users switch to other apps. The app also works with Overture in Landscape, so you can quickly and easily control your music when you’re working in a different app.
Music and beyond
We see a time in the not too distant future when spatial computing will extend into the wider world of podcasts, audiobooks and storytelling. Just this year, eager festival-goers at Siggraph Computer Animation Festival were invited to put on a Magic Leap One headset and discover the story of Frankenstein through the eyes of a young Mary Shelley. And in 2018, we announced a new partnership with the RSC, working together to build unforgettable theatrical experiences using spatial computing, including a 'tabletop theatre' performance of the Seven Ages of Man speech from As You Like It.
And this is just the beginning. The launch of Spotify marks an evolution in the way you can see, hear and experience the bands and artists that you love. It’s an exciting time for music. For musicians. For developers. And for music-lovers the world over.
We look forward to seeing and hearing what’s to come.
