Medical Tech Meets Spatial Computing

Brainlab and Magic Leap are redefining how surgeons and other clinicians visualize and access medical imaging data.

September 25, 2018

Magic Leap’s vision is to improve the human experience of the world. Today, we take an exciting stride forward in achieving this vision by announcing our partnership with Brainlab. The German medical technology company has joined forces with Magic Leap to bring medical imaging and surgical procedure into an entirely new dimension.

Our shared goal is to redefine how surgeons and other clinicians visualize and access medical imaging data. Medical practitioners will have access to a state-of-the-art operating system that combines Brainlab data management, cloud computing, visualization and data pre-processing software with Magic Leap’s spatial computing and experiential platforms.

The first release will enable planning and simulation of interventional procedures in an office setting, which will be expanded upon quickly to include a next-generation mix of virtual and physical worlds for the operating room, radiotherapy treatment room, intensive care unit and radiology suite.

Advancements made in medical technology are quite possibly the most important advances that affect humans on a global scale. Whether this means new medication that fights rare diseases or a new surgical entry point that helps alleviate pain or downtime, medical professionals can almost unanimously agree that putting patients first is their ultimate priority. By helping patients better see and understand their diagnosis, and allowing doctors to explore details of the human body like never before, we hope to revolutionize how medicine is practiced.
