Lumin OS Enterprise Support
Lumin OS 0.98.20 is focused on delivering select, but important, features for enterprise developers. At the center of this release is WebRTC native support. A few weeks ago, W3C and IETF announced Web Real-Time Communications (WebRTC) as a recommended official standard. This powerful standard is quickly becoming a critical component to many enterprise use cases today, such as remote assistance scenarios, which is why we felt it was a priority to make this natively available on the Magic Leap platform. We have also made updates to the Helio browser to increase compatibility with web-based audio/video applications.
To improve the experience for enterprise connectivity, you can now connect to enterprise WIFI networks through certificate-based authentication. And to create a more seamless onboarding experience with the Magic Leap device in an enterprise environment, enterprise admins now have the ability to bypass certain OOBE options - including fit and eye calibration.
In addition, we have incorporated some customer and developer feedback such as the ability to disable menu occlusion. You can find the full list of the platform features in the OS release notes.
Lumin SDK Features for Enterprise Developers
Lumin SDK 0.25 delivers select, substantive APIs for our enterprise developers. One of the key features of Lumin SDK 0.25.0 is the simplified WebRTC Unity APIs. This allows the developers to take advantage of the popular WebRTC standard for real-time, peer-to-peer audio and visual communication. To complement the WebRTC APIs, developers now have access to mixed reality camera APIs enabling the capture of virtual and physical content. This enables developers to create any remote assist scenario where a seamless 2 way audio-video channel is created between two users in different locations. They are able to share real time video from their point of view and stream any content - whether virtual or physical - to the other person. Collaboration can then be greatly enhanced by building annotation and recording functionality at the application level.
Developers now have access to additional APIs for QR Code tracking, access to IMU hardware data for measuring inertia, device ID API and updated eye tracking API to expose a numerical representation of the user’s pupil size. Alongside the new APIs, usual bug fixes and improvements, there are new examples for the WebRTC, Found Objects and Aruco tracking APIs that makes it easier to get started. Please review the release notes for a comprehensive list of SDK features.
